Shirley R. Stephens Canandaigua- Shirley R. (Barend) Stephens, 90, passed away on June 3, 2016. She was born on June 18, 1925 in Rochester, NY. She is survived by her children: Day and Marlene Stephens, Carly and Rob Vanas; grandchildren Tom and Stephanie Stephens, Sarah and Lance Ullman, Eric and Lyndsay Fuhrmann, Jenna Vanas and Michelle and Joel Adams; great grandchildren Allison and Amy Stephens, John and Elizabeth Lampe, Austin and Olivia Fuhrmann; her sister-in law Donna Barend and her nephew and niece Guy and Lorie Barend. She was preceded into the afterlife by her husband, Thomas C. Stephens; grandson, Ian Fuhrmann; brother, Robert Barend; parents, Mary and William F. Hill, and her birth father, Henry Barend Jr. Mrs. Stephens was born with a thirst for knowledge that led her to a life of continuous study and learning. She was an avid reader, historian, and had a passion for genealogy, spending years researching and collecting information about her ancestry. She had the gift of creativity and expressed it through multiple channels throughout her life. She was an exceptional person who always put others before herself. She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother and great grandmother who left a lasting impression on all who knew and loved her. She was a strong woman who lived life to its fullest. She will be sorely missed. At her request, her body has been donated to the University Of Rochester Medical Center. There will be no calling hours or funeral services. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. Contributions may be made in her name to: Happiness House, 5415 North Bloomfield Rd.
