Obituary of Bradley K. Stanton

Bradley K. Stanton Canandaigua- Bradley Stanton passed away peacefully on January 10, 2017 with his family by his side. He was predeceased by his parents, Lucy and Miller Stanton; three sisters, Helen Whipple, Betty Pike, Sharon Stanton, and grandson, Matthew Barber. Brad is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Ruth; their three children, Pamela Colvin, Cynthia Galens and Brad Stanton; several grandchildren, great grandchildren; brothers, Richard, Robert, John and David; sister, Beverly; sister in-law Jane (Tom) Ordway and nieces and nephews. Brad served with the US Air Force during the Korean War as an Intercept Radio Operator stationed in Japan. After returning from the service he obtained a Bachelor’s degree in education at Geneseo, in 1960 a Masters in education and a Masters in Social Science in 1967. He taught social studies in the Canandaigua City School District from 1956-1986. Besides teaching, he was an instructor for the chess club, class advisor numerous times, and instructor for the Academy Color Guard. Brad was known by many names some being Silver Fox, Coach, and Dad. He also was facilitator for the Canandaigua Man to Man Prostate Cancer Support Group and volunteered at FF Thompson Hospital. Brad’s other interest included golfing, fly fishing, card playing, traveling and on-line chess. He was always the teacher no matter what he was doing there was a lesson to be learned. Anyone who knew him well knew he was am avid lover of NY Giants football and Syracuse football and basketball. He was an individual that touched a lot of people’s lives, influenced many a student by pushing them to think outside the box, and was included in many celebrations of these same students. He was held in the highest regard just as he held others to that same high standard. He will be remembered by many and missed by so many more. Memorial Service will to be announced at a later date. Donations can be made to the Rochester Division of the American Cancer society, Man to Man Program.
