Obituary of Todd H. Feldman

Todd H. Feldman

Todd Harris Feldman, 46, of Pittsford, NY, passed away unexpectedly on May 30, 2017.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 10th at Willowbrook Christian Church, 619 High Street, Victor, NY.

Todd was born in Providence, Rhode Island to Dr. Jan Feldman and Mrs. Carol Yellin Berman on November 17, 1970. Todd is a graduate of the Moses Brown School (1988), received his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Rochester (1992), a Master of Arts in teaching from the University of Rochester (1993), and a Masters in History from SUNY Buffalo (2004). Mr. Feldman began his teaching career in 1994 at Irondequoit High School where he spent 10 years teaching Social Studies. In 2004, Mr. Feldman joined Canandaigua Academy in Canandaigua, NY.

During his career he received official recognition as a Master Teacher by earning a National Board Teacher Certification in 2009 from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. He was one of a handful of Canandaigua teachers to hold this prestigious certification. During his time at Canandaigua Academy he taught Regents U.S. History, AP U.S. History & Government and was instrumental in developing an AP Psychology course which he subsequently taught. In addition to his teaching responsibilities he was involved with the College Board, crafting questions for the AP exams as well as the SAT’s.

Despite his multitude of academic accomplishments, his most proud academic moment was that of Teacher of the Year, which he received from Canandaigua Academy in the spring of 2014.

Teaching was Todd’s gift. He was a master of words, a passionate teacher, insisting that it was the learning that was important and not the grades. He was known in his classroom for witty sayings (“Do you hear what I’m throwing down”, “I don’t need to read the book, I’ve already graduated”, “Go ahead, don’t talk, I don’t get any quiet at home, I could sit here all day”, and “Bam! Full circle baby!”). He had a love of reading, all things Bruce Springsteen, and was a Buffalo Bills and Red Sox fan (often found building in his beloved Red Sox sweatshirt). He loved debating football with his father and was often surrounded by his family. He had a love for his children that can not be described. They were the most important people in his life. He could be found talking constantly about their latest accomplishments and how proud he was of them.

He was respected by both teachers and students for his academic prowess as well as his humanity, understanding and sensitivity.

Todd is preceded in death by his father, Dr. Jan Feldman.

Todd is survived by his children, Molly, Noah, Quinn & Teagan Feldman, his first wife, Jennifer Larter Feldman, second wife, Elizabeth Feldman, sister Tamra Feldman, step sisters Kim and Lauri Mann, step brothers Bill and Christopher Mann, mother Carol Yellin Berman and step mother Diane (De) Feldman, as well as other extended family members.

A memorial has been set up in Todd Feldman’s memory. Donations can be sent to the Todd Feldman Memorial Scholarship Fund, District Office, 143 North Pearl Street, Canandaigua, NY 14424 Attn: District Treasurer.
