Obituary of J. Thomas Schaeffer

J. Thomas Schaeffer II, age 64, passed away peacefully Sunday, June 4, 2017 at Strong Memorial Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Virginia Schaeffer; children, Katie (Daniel) Schaeffer McCool, Melissa (Josh) Schaeffer, Justin (Emily) Schaeffer; brother, David Schaeffer; sister, Sharon (Fran) Reed, Karen (Mike) Ham; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Justin and Hazel Schaeffer. Born at FF Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua, Tom owned and operated his own business, Tom's Mobil, for the last 35 years. He was a volunteer fire fighter (former fire chief) for the Merrill Hose Company of the Canandaigua Fire Department and also, a volunteer with Hopewell Fire. Tom was well known and a respected member of the community and the kind of guy that would do anything to help you out. He enjoyed watching old movies, listening to music and working on his 1967 Chevy Impala in his spare time. Also, Tom was extremely proud of his three children, Katie, Melissa and Justin for their achievements. Friends may call Thursday, June 8, from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at Fuller Funeral Home, Inc. 190 Buffalo St. Canandaigua. A 12 (noon) funeral service will be Friday, June 9, at the funeral home.
