James J. DAgostino
Canandaigua- James J. DAgostino, age 87, passed away November 2, 2011 at F.F. Thompson Hospital.
Jim was born and raised in Canandaigua, NY. He attended St. Marys School and Canandaigua Academy and played on two championship baseball teams while attending school. Although pursued for a pro baseball contract he enlisted and served in the U.S. Marine Corps throughout the duration of WW II.
Following his discharge from the service he resumed his education at San Antonio College and his baseball career in the Chicago White Sox, Pittsburgh Pirate and New York Yankees organizations, and married the love of his life, Elaine Martin.
He returned home and began a family and went to work for U.S. Post Office where he would remain for 47 years. He served his last 12 years as postmaster of the Shortsville, NY Post Office.
Jim enjoyed golf, bowling, and spending time with his family. He was a past president and Hall of Fame member of the Canandaigua Bowling Association and a past president of the Red Jacket Rotary. He served on the Canandaigua Planning Commission and was a member of St. Marys Church.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Elaine, his sons John (Patricia) DAgostino, Ron (Ardyth) DAgostino, grandchildren Jill (Kevin) ODea, Scott (Kristen) DAgostino, Lindsay (Dave) DAgostino, and Ashley (Josh) DAgostino, great grandchildren Kyle and Courtney ODea and Kailyn and Ryan DAgostino, several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
He was pre-deceased by his parents, John and Santa DAgostino, and his brothers and sisters, Joseph, Charles and Dominic DAgostino and sisters Mickey Harris, Tina McGuire, Josephine Violanti and Rose Perrotto.
All those who knew Jim know that his smile would light up any room and we will never forget his kindness and concern for everyone he knew.
A funeral Mass will be held Saturday,at 2 pm. November 5 at St. Marys Church 95 N. Main St. Canandaigua. Burial will be held in Woodlawn Cemetery. Service arrangements are under the care and direction of Fuller Funeral Home, Inc. Canandaigua.
