Obituary of Thelma Nicot
Thelma J. Nicot
Canandaigua-Thelma Nicot, age 68, of Canandaigua, passed away on November 5, 2011, surrounded by the love of her family, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Thelma was a very loving; mother, sister, aunt, friend, and colleague.
She was born to the late Alva and Catherine Graham, October 14, 1943, in Angelica, New York. Thelma grew up on a small farm in Belfast, New York where she developed her love of animals and her tremendous work ethic. She graduated from Belfast Central School in 1961. After high school, she continued her education and attended Brockport College. Upon earning her degree, Thelma was employed as a physical education teacher at Canandaigua Primary School. She dedicated 40 years of service to the Canandaigua City School District before her retirement in 2006. She truly made a positive difference in the lives of many children, colleagues and community members. With a heart of gold, Thelma enjoyed spending her free time helping others. Thelma was an active member of the Manchester-Shortsville Lions Club, Red Jacket Boosters Club, Canandaigua Teachers Association, Ontario County Retirees, and Canandaigua Primary Retirees group. Thelma also held numerous leadership positions with the Finger Lakes Hearing Foundation. She was a very caring individual and an avid volunteer. She volunteered regularly at Granger Hall, Sonnenberg Gardens, Canandaigua Parent-Teacher Association, and the ARC. Thelma had a genuine kindness and was always a helpful friend and family member. She will live forever in the hearts of so many, and will be greatly missed.
Thelma is survived by her children; Mike Nicot (Amy), and Tom Nicot. She is also survived by her sister and nephew, Rita and Josh Wallace, and her half-sister, Juanita Hoffman. Thelma wanted to be sure to share how very grateful she was for her supportive and caring family, friends, colleagues, neighbors, doctors, and nurses. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in her memory to the Manchester-Shortsville Lions Club, Lollipop Farm, and Mercy Flight. Calling hours will be held on Saturday, November 12, from 1-4 p.m. at Fuller Funeral Home, Inc 190 Buffalo St. Canandaigua. A 4 p.m. memorial service will follow at the Funeral Home.
