Obituary of David E. VanGelder

David E. VanGelder Canandaigua- David VanGelder, 94, passed away peacefully at the VA hospital in Canandaigua on Saturday, February 15, 2020. David was a World War II veteran who served 18 years in the US Army. He was a lifetime member of the VFW. David was devoted to his wife of 48 years Vera, who predeceased him in the year 2000. David worked at the VA hospital for 30 years. After retiring he became very involved in woodworking in his shop making a variety of pieces that he was always more than happy to gift to his friends and family. He was also an avid golfer. On the days he was not playing, he could often be seen off in the rough searching for golf balls. At age 90 he got a hole-in-one. He was quite proud of that accomplishment being a 90-year-old on the course to have done that. He loved to play the piano wherever he went and could find a piano he would sit down and play, and whistled beautifully. He spent countless hours researching family genealogy and loved sharing the stories. He was a good Christian man, he attended the First United Methodist Church of Canandaigua. David is survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be on Monday, February 24, from 4-6 pm at Fuller Funeral Home, Inc. 190 Buffalo St. Canandaigua. A memorial service will follow at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to VFW Post 7414. To share a memory or express condolences online please visit www.fullerfh.com
