Obituary of Eleanor P. Hoffman

Eleanor "Mama Dee" Hoffman Canandaigua- Dee Hoffman, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2020, surrounded by the love of her family. Dee would have been 85 on March 31st. Affectionately known as "The Ticket Lady" Dee's voice could commonly be heard announcing "The loading of Captain Gray's five o'clock boat..." throughout Roseland Park from 1973 until the park closed in 1985. Her four foot by four foot ticket booth – along with the small deck area behind, served as a warm gathering place for many people throughout that twelve year period. Prior to Roseland and throughout her entire life, Dee's focus was her family which graciously extended beyond Captain Gray and her nine children. Originally from Pennsylvania, Dee came to Canandaigua with her infant son John. She met and married Gray Hoffman and they immediately began their family. They raised their family on Park Avenue. The Park Avenue house and community became Mama Dee's life and she often referred to these years as her best. Surrounded by a young family and a group of very similar families Dee could be counted on to help pick up a struggling child, wipe a nose, or listen to a friend's problem. She was a very kind and loving soul that helped many and asked for little in return. She was a wonderful role model in so many ways. Dee was predeceased by her husband of 54 years Gray Hoffman, her oldest daughter Jennifer and her youngest daughter Jessica. Her seven surviving children are John Hoffman, Jawan Betts (Charlie), Janis Mosher (Mike), Jadon Hoffman (Anne), Jody Theocharakis (Harry), Julie Megaffee (Phil) and James Hoffman. She was blessed with thirteen wonderful grandchildren and one great-grandchild for whom she loved to the moon and back (twice). Friends may call on Monday, March 9, from 4-7 p.m. at Fuller Funeral Home, Inc. 190 Buffalo St. Canandaigua. A private celebration of Mama Dee's life will be held in May. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the loving staff at Horizons Senior Living Community here in Canandaigua and the Hospeace House in Naples. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The Patient Needs Fund at Sands Cancer Center. To share a memory or express condolences online visit www.fullerfh.com
