Obituary of John A. VanBrooker

John A. (Jack) VanBrooker Jr. - Canandaigua – 83, passed away Thursday, September 3, 2020 at F. F. Thompson Hospital. Jack was born in Canandaigua on January 6, 1937. In 1958 he married Maureen Lynaugh and began raising a family. Jack continued in the family business, operating VanBrooker's Red and White on West Avenue. For many years, Jack was the Captain of the Canandaigua Emergency Squad as well as a member of Mutual Hook and Ladder fire department. He was a very active volunteer in his community and was named the Rotary Citizen of the Year in 1975 –an award given for putting “service over self”. When not busy serving his community, Jack loved to spend time with his family, travel and play golf. Jack was predeceased by Maureen, in December 2018 and his only sister Patricia Bliss in December 2019. He is survived by his four children: John, Julie, Michael (Terri) and Jodi (Mike) Uhrig. Jack also had two grandchildren that he showered with love and who adored him, George and Michaela. He will be sincerely missed by all and we will treasure all of the wonderful memories made together. A celebration of life will be held for Jack on Tuesday September 8 at the Canandaigua Moose Club on Ontario Street Extension from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A private burial will take place at a time convenient to the family. Arrangements are under the care of Fuller Funeral Home, Inc. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at the M.M. Ewing Continuing Care Center for their loving care of Jack over the last year. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made there.
