Obituary of Phyllis J. Davis
Phyllis J. Davis
Phyllis Joan Maxwell Davis was the oldest daughter born in Canandaigua on September 17th, 1933 to R. Evelyn and Earl Maxwell. She was raised on the family farm in Macedon, N.Y. Phyllis attended and graduated as the Salutatorian of her class at Macedon High School. Phyllis was a Veteran, she served in the in the Air Force during the Korean War from 1953-1956. Phyllis married Frank Davis on October 31,1959. For many years, she and her husband owned and operated an Arctic Cat snowmobile and Auto Body Shop business in Hopewell.
Phyllis’ family was the center of her life. She was a loving, dedicated, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was known as everyone’s ‘’Grandma”. She spent her life caring for her family. Phyllis enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking and spending time with all of the children in her life.
In 1979 Phyllis and her husband Frank built a new home on Canandaigua Lake and moved there from Hopewell. For the remainder of her life, Phyllis enjoyed her home on the lake with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She especially enjoyed the beautiful sunsets and view of the lake as well as taking a quick dip in the lake. (but only if the temperature was nice and warm) After they closed their business in Hopewell, Phyllis went to work for Ontario County in the Treasury Department. She worked many years until her retirement in 1996. Phyllis was also an active, lifetime member of St. Mary’s Church in Canandaigua.
A very proud moment for Phyllis was in the spring of 2018 when she was invited to be a member of the Rochester Honor Flight Team to Washington D.C. to honor Veterans. She loved the trip and was so honored she said she felt “like a celebrity”.
Phyllis is survived by her husband, Frank (for whom they were married for 61 years) and her children Cheryl and Shawn Davis (Donna). Phyllis is also survived by her grandchildren, Laura, Kyle, Amy, Christopher, Amanda, Jacqueline, and Jamie and 11 great-grandchildren.
Phyllis will be so very missed by everyone that her life touched…
