Helane Koehler

Obituary of Helane M. Koehler

Helane M. Koehler, treasured Mother and Oma, 78, of Canandaigua, NY (formerly of Fishers) passed away suddenly and peacefully on June 3, 2021 at MM Ewing Rehabilitation Center where she worked and volunteered much of her life. She was born to parents Willy & Ann Kemter on July 30, 1942. Helane graduated from John Quill - Marshall high school in 1960 and Continental Beauty School. Born of German heritage, she delighted in traditions such as dumplings, roast goose, the mountains (The Black Forest), and accordion music. Growing up she had a passion for outdoors and participated in archery and riflery events. She loved to swim and was always the first to "dive" into the pool, lake or ocean... only to minutes later splash you. Helane’s fondness of music included playing the piano, dancing the night away at The German Club, and singing in the woman's Teutonia Liedertafel Choir in Rochester, NY. A devout homemaker, hairdresser, volunteer, and loyal friend, she took great pride and joy in her family above all else. Helane helped fill her family’s summers singing around the campfire and winters shushing down the ski slopes. In recent years, her big joys and special times were traveling to New Mexico, California and Pennsylvania to be with her children and their families. She had an extra soft spot in her heart with affection and compassion for the elderly. Other favorite activities included going to The Country Club with her dear friends, driving to Naples and grabbing a Monica's pot pie, and walking miles on the YMCA treadmill listening to gospel music and her favorite guy Elvis. She was greatly loved and will be truly missed by her three children; Hannelore (Paul) Fuierer, Marc (Heidi) Koehler and Anneliese (Brian) Reese, her grandchildren; Petra, Sepp, Alq, Sabine, Kol, Anja, Liesel, Sophie, Tomas and Tyler, great grandchildren; Anneke, Alida, Otto and Nora; and dear sister Hannelore Zimbrich, brothers Paul and Willy Kemter. Helane’s death is not a goodbye. It is an “Auf Wiedersehen”, her favorite German saying meaning “Until We Meet Again”. To make Helane smile, we encourage you to perform one act of kindness today.
