Obituary of Alan R. Andersen

Alan R. Andersen (Dick) of Farmington, NY passed away peacefully on August 27, 2021, at the age of 73, with his beloved wife, Cathy and their children, Jeff and Jamie, by his side. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, and grandfather and will be sadly missed. Dick was born in Penn Yan, NY on August 28, 1947 to Lewis & Meryl Barrow Andersen. Dick graduated from Penn Yan Academy in 1964. After graduating he serverd in the Navy. Dick went on to work for the NYS Thruway and U.S Postal Service where he retired from after 30 years. During cold months, Dick (and Cathy) wintered at their place in Zephyrhills, FL where they would enjoy the warm weather and great friends. He loved playing games with friends and having a good laugh – never passed up a chance to share a joke (good or bad). Dick liked trying to beat his grandkids at card games and enjoyed most forms of art, especially painting and teaching the grandkids to paint. He also loved cooking. Dick was preceded in death by his parents and by his brother, John Andersen. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Cathryn (Bator); children Jeffery (Jackie) Andersen and Jamie (William) Purdy; brother Ralph (Barb) Andersen and sister-in-law Donna Andersen; grandchildren Liam, Elizabeth, and Julia. Friends and family may call from 4pm to 7pm on Thursday, September 2nd. Funeral Services will be held at 11am on Friday, September 3rd. Both the calling hours and funeral service will be held at Fuller Funeral Home, 190 Buffalo Street, Canandaigua. Face masks preferred and appreciated. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Farmington Amvets Post 332, P.O. Box 25291, Farmington, NY 14425. Contributions can also be made in his name to the charity of one’s choice.
