Deeply saddened to hear of Sal's passing, I send my heartfelt condolences to his family.
When I worked at LaBella Associates, many years ago, my office was right next door to Sal's. We had some really great conversations that I look back on fondly today. Sal truly cared, was incredibly wise, supportive, and served as a mentor and coach to me. He recognized a talent in me which shifted the trajectory of my career, for which I am grateful.
Sal positively impacted countless people through his business and throughout the Rochester community. A wonderful man, I will miss him.

I have fond memories of growing up with Sal, having been neighbors throughout our youth. He was always enterprising and willing to take on new challenges, demonstrated by some of the hobbies and activities we shared. These were merely a prelude to his entrepreneurial efforts in building the engineering firm that bears his name and his contribution of self to the greater Rochester community. I am honored to have known Sal and send my heartfelt condolences to his family.
I know that he rests in the loving arms of our Lord.

I was very saddened to read of Sal's passing. He was a longtime community icon for me. Sal spoke softly, but when he spoke people listened. He cared deeply about the greater Rochester community and provided tremendous leadership over many decades. He set a standard of community leadership and commitment that others aspire to measure up to. He was a friend and a mentor in many ways. My heartfelt condolences to his family at this sad time. He will be missed by many.

I met Sal in the early 80s when he and I were members of the Small Business Council of Rochester and I served as his Vice President when he was elected President and the reach of SBCR grew. I enjoyed spending time with him in meetings and listening to his thoughts and ideas for the future. Although we would only see each other periodically over the years, I have followed the expansion of LaBella Associates with admiration. Condolences to all his family and friends - Sal was a special person. May he rest in peace. - Jon Chernak

Hi Sandra,
I hope that your fond memories of Sal will carry you through the difficult pains of your loss.
Sue and I met you at a wonderful dinner in your home in Irondequoit several years ago. I wish we could have spent more social time together. He was a great man who I really admired, respected and was a wonderful friend, Sue and I recognized you as a wonderful couple.
I worked in government relations at Kodak and got to know Sal in our overlapping work in the Rochester community. I came to admire his great character, calm style, and warm sense of humor.
Our greatest joint project was siting Frontier Field on Kodak property. I vividly recall walking around the then-Kodak parking lots to test various possible configurations for the proposed stadium. I learned that since he didn't know much about designing and building a baseball stadium, he consulted with several other nationally prominent engineering and architectural firms to learn what were the highest and best standards. He brought that knowledge to his work in successfully winning the contract with Monroe County and the Red Wings, designing and building a structure to properly fit the site, the community, and the budget. I will always remember it as one of Sal's great projects. We jointly worked our way through all the politics behind the scenes and quietly celebrated our success. At the opening game played at the stadium, we caught up with each other and enthusiastically shared our joy in the great accomplishment in Sal.s success in building a prominent, beautiful structure for the Rochester community to enjoy for years,
Because of our shared values, we got to be good friends. After my retirement from Kodak, we drifted apart but I was quick to visit him when he was so ill and thrilled when I ran into him on the street near the Y as he worked hard on his rehabilitation.
He was a very special man that I will long admire and remember
The Rochester community has lost one of our best.
Sincerely,
Bob Volpe

Sandra, Cynthia, & Vince - We are so sorry to hear of Sal's passing. I remember some of the old days like they were yesterday. Cynthia helped out in accounting, Ernie was Mr. IT, & Vince was the programming wizard helping us complete all those hydraulic calculations that took an entire night to complete. By the way Vince, you left a Basic Programming textbook on my bookshelf - let me know if you need it back. As for Sal, well, he touched a lot of people; a real gentleman and a mentor to so many.
Thinking of you,
Jim & Sue Matzat
