Obituary of Wayne Smith
Wayne was born June 4, 1940, in Canandaigua, NY. He passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, February 16, 2025.
Wayne graduated in 1959 from Middlesex Valley Central (Marcus Whitman Central) in Rushville, NY. He retired from the VA Hospital in Canandaigua in 2004 after 42 years. He also worked in the Town of Potter and the Town of Middlesex mowing roadsides in the summer. Wayne retired from the Potter Planning Board after 35 years and for 8 of those years was the Chairman. Wayne was a member of the board of the Nettle Valley Cemetery. He was a founding charter member of the Potter Fire Dept since 1969. Wayne attended Good Shepherd Church in Canandaigua, NY.
Wayne is survived by his wife of 64 years Leslie Mae Smith; children Dale (Annie) and Dawn
(Chris) of Canandaigua; granddaughter Amanda (John) of NY, Emilee DeRoo (Hunter) of N. Carolina; brothers Bruce (Marylou) and Allen (Beth) and great granddaughter Ryleigh.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Assoc., The American Diabetes Assoc., or the Nettle Valley Cemetery, C/O Patty Bootes, 981 W. Swamp Rd. Middlesex, NY 14507.
Friends may call Saturday, March 15, from 10-11 AM at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 320 S. Pearl St. Canandaigua. An 11 AM memorial service will follow at the church. The interment will be at the Nettle Valley Cemetery.
