Obituary of James W. Bicker

James Wallace “Jim” Bicker, 74, of Canandaigua, NY passed away on March 11 at Strong Memorial Hospital surrounded by his loving wife and family. James was born in Lockport, NY to Janice Klineline Bicker and Wallace Bicker on April 21, 1950. He graduated from Lockport Senior High School in 1968. He went on to earn his Bachelor’s Degree in Business from Hartwick College and would later earn his Nursing Home Administrator’s Certificate and worked as a Nursing Home Administrator at Hornell Gardens, a Hurlbut facility, in Hornell NY for 44 years. Jim was a Consultant for Rochester Region Independent Review Organization (IPRO) and Steuben County Healthcare Facility; Member, VP and President of Southern Tier Sub-Area Counsel of the Finger Lakes Health System Agency; Member and Chair of Eastern Steuben Area United Way; Member of Steuben County Office for the Aging Advisory Board; Member of the Steuben County Office for the Retired Senior Volunteer Program Advisory Board; Member, VP, and President of Genesee Health Facilities Association; Member of New York State Health Facilities Association Board; Member of Hornell Area Humane Society Board. James was also involved in several yearly Relay for Life community events. He loved learning about American history and visiting its battlefields, museums and landmarks. He enjoyed grilling for and eating with his family, friends and colleagues but also knew the value of shared quiet time. Jim had an adventurous spirit that found him in canoes, hot air balloons and learning to fly small aircraft. As one of his last wishes some of his ashes will be launched into space. James was preceded in death by his father Wallace Bicker and mother Janice Bicker Cranston. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Judith (Brott) Bicker of Canandaigua, NY; daughters Kathryn (Christopher) Lail of Saratoga Springs, NY, Joanna (Gregory) Tebbano of Cossayuna, NY, Sara (Brian) Bickersmith of Glenmont, NY, Jennifer Rinaldi of Brighton, NY, Jessica (Dustin) Webster of Addison, NY and Jeannine Rinaldi of Canandaigua, NY; son Ryan (Brittany) Bicker of Canandaigua, NY; his beloved grandog Harley David and grandchildren Jordan, Anna, Brayde, Grace, Violet, Jaicee and Mira; brothers Paul (Lin) and David (Suzette) Bicker of Lockport NY; sisters Karen Naugle and Leann (Philip) Belfield of Lockport, NY, as well as several loving and wonderful nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their gratitude to Wilmot Cancer Center at Strong Memorial Hospital, and to all the providers and staff for their compassion and support.
