Barbara E. Saar Obituary

Barbara E. Saar, age 82, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 20, 2025. She was born on January

6, 1943. She is predeceased by her husband, William Saar, Sr., her father, Howard Pool, her mother, Eleanor

(Pool) Jeffery, and her step-father, Lowell Jeffery.

She is survived by her children Bill (Pam) Saar, Ken (Nina) Saar, and Judy (John) Devlin; grandchildren Katy

Tatem, Shane (Meghan) Devlin, Chris (Heather) Saar, and Amber (Hunter) Winslow; great grandchildren

Patrick and Ryan Devlin, Dexter Tatem; brothers Bill Pool and Frank (Sue) Jeffery; sister-in-law Dorothy

Markham; cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Barbara lived a life of putting others first, caring for children, and serving her community. When her husband,

William, was alive, he served as a firefighter for East Bloomfield-Holcomb Fire Department, and she could be

found at various events to support the firefighters or making sure they had a meal to come back to after a call.

She loved to be there for others in their time of need as a listening ear and shoulder to lean on. For many

years, Barbara babysat countless children in the Bloomfield and surrounding communities. Her home was filled

with love and laughter as she took care of the next generation. She kept in close contact with several of the

children she babysat as they grew up and started careers and families of their own.

She was a member of the American Legion and Women’s Auxiliary at the American Legion Canandaigua Post

256 for more than forty years. She took great pride in the various roles she had there over the years. Some of

her favorite memories there were to help select girls from the local high school to represent the American

Legion for Girls State each year as well as various conferences she went to over the years to represent her

local post. This was important work to her as she made sure to honor her late father, who died in the Battle of

the Bulge during World War II when she was two years old. She made sure to honor him by collecting his war

documents and letters, sharing his story with others, helping connect with local veterans, and running many

local events.

Barbara’s greatest accomplishment in her life was her family. She loved them fiercely and took great pride in

those relationships. No matter what the occasion was, she could be found with a camera in her hand to

capture another treasured moment that she held so dearly to her heart. Her children will cherish the family

camping trips they took as kids. She loved being a Nana and more recently, a “G-G”. Anyone that knew her

would be shown several recent photos of her loved ones and stories of what they were up to. She was in her

glory when she was gathered around her family and making memories with them. She will be remembered for

her thousands of pictures from the last few decades, her love of cardinals, having a hot cup of coffee while

watching her soap operas, and her amazing winning luck when it came to scratch-offs.

Her family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff on the Three East floor at Thompson Health for

their incredible and compassionate care for Barbara. The staff went above and beyond and Barbara’s family is

forever grateful for them.
