Obituary of Marie E. Benivegna
Marie E. Benivegna (95), passed away peacefully at home on March 20, 2025. She was born November 23, 1929, in Brooklyn, NY to Louis and Louise Leone. Mom grew up in a neighborhood rich in loving family and friends with whom she kept in regular contact over many years. She was a High School graduate. Her keen intelligence and memory would have made for a highly successful college education and professional career but in those years it was not meant to be. She proudly retired as a service representative for Bell Telephone. In retirement she served as a Eucharistic Minister.
She married her sweetheart Albert in 1950. They raised their family in Massapequa, NY, then moved to Florida in 1971. Florida is where they eventually lovingly helped raise their first batch of sweet grandchildren. Near midway in their retirement years they moved to Canandaigua, NY where they helped raise another batch of sweet grandchildren. In 2019 Dad passed away and Mom moved to Manhattan to live with her daughter Marybeth and family where she helped raise yet another sweet grandchild. In June 2024 Mom visited family in Canandaigua. Ultimately her health worsened, and she remained in Canandaigua until her death.
Mom was a devout Catholic. She spent hours each day saying prayers for family, friends, and those she never met. She was concerned for all those who were suffering and she was generous in donating to many causes and concerns. She enjoyed watching Jeopardy and kept abreast of current events. At age 95 she was sharp as a tack. She was a very gentle, special lady who was deeply loved.
Mom is survived by her children Gary (Betty), Richard (Linda), and Marybeth (Maria), 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
A memorial mass will be held in Manhattan, NY followed by a reception. Internment with a graveside service will be held the following day in Queens, NY. Please contact one of her children for information on the location and time of the services.
Donations can be sent to a charity of choice.
