Obituary of Richard L. Woodworth Sr.
Richard L. Woodworth, age 86, of Hopewell, passed away peacefully on April 1st, 2025, at F.F. Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua. Richard was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. His legacy of love, kindness, and strength will be cherished by his family and all who knew him.
Born on February 23, 1939, in Shinglehouse, PA, Richard was the son of the late Gerald and Irene Woodworth. He grew up in Geneva, NY, where he developed a lifelong love for farming and the simple joys that come with life on the land.
Richard dedicated much of his professional life to HVAC controls and electrical work, primarily for MCC Powers. He earned the respect of his colleagues for his technical expertise, dedication, and strong work ethic. Richard's knowledge in his field was extensive, and he took great pride in his work, always striving for excellence.
Richard was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Essie Mae Woodworth (Howard), with whom he shared 67 years of love, laughter, and companionship. Together, they built a life filled with joy and shared memories, especially their cherished times spent traveling to their second home in Pensacola, Florida.
Richard is survived by his children, Richard Jr. (Laurie) Woodworth, Kathryn Daunce, and Shannon (Ben) Gordner; grandchildren, Rachel (David) Gillotte, Shaina Mitchell, Alicia (Rudy) Ignacio, Justin Woodworth, Melissa (Tim) Robbins, and Nicole Daunce; great-grandchildren, Lilianna Ignacio, Logan Churchill, McKenzie Mitchell, Nolan Mitchell, Elliott Robbins, and Emily Gillotte. He was predeceased by his wife, Essie Mae Woodworth, son Thomas Woodworth, parents, Gerald and Irene Woodworth, siblings Gerald Woodworth, Dorothy Maney and June Mills, and son-in-law Jim Daunce.
A small graveside service to celebrate Richard's life will be held on Monday, April 7, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Sandhill Cemetery in the Town of Seneca. Per his request there will be no calling hours.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff of the Emergency Department at F.F. Thompson Hospital for their compassion and care.
