Obituary of Shirley E. Crouse
Shirley E. Crouse
Loving daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Shirley Elaine (Benson) Crouse passed away on April 17, 2025. Shirley was born to Clara and Edward Benson on September 14, 1938 in Atlanta, New York. She was the eldest of six siblings, all of whom she adored. Shirley was a graduate of Monroe High School. Shirley was a stay-at-home mother before working as a circuit board assembler for military aircraft and equipment at Harris Corporation and Flight Line Electronics. Shirley married Norman Crouse and had six children, who went on to bless her with thirteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Shirley's love for her family and friends was immeasurable. Shirley loved spending holidays with her family. She loved cooking and baking and was famous for her Christmas cookies and Thanksgiving pies. Shirley was an animal lover, breeding Pekingese for many years. She loved reading, going to garage sales, playing BINGO, and doing crossword puzzles. She never missed an episode of Outlander or her favorite soap operas. She loved butterflies because they reminded her of her mother, who was her best friend. She loved to travel, and her favorite trips were to Scotland and a cross-country trip in a motorhome with her siblings. Her favorite thing in the world was watching her siblings play live music, even joining them on occasion.
Shirley is predeceased by her mother Clara Benson-Leege, her father Edward Benson, her brothers Edward “Eddie” (Vicki) Benson and Eugene “Gene” (Joyce) Benson, and her beloved grandson Tommy. She is survived by her siblings Leland “Lee” (Lorraine) Benson, Arlene Appenheimer, and William “Bill” (Carole) Benson; her children Melody Crouse, Norman (Angela) Crouse, Richard (Jackie) Crouse, Thomas (Cindy) Crouse, Sheila Crouse, and Connie (James) Crouse; her grandchildren Shannon (Jordan) Yashenko, Chelsea Chavez, Amanda (Three) Bollinger, Amber (Andrew) Feaster, Sarah (Jessica) Crouse, Meghan (Jordan) Crouse, Amanda (Amy) Fisk-Helms, Kayte (Travis) Baumgartner, Christopher Crouse, Jonathan Crouse, Emily Schaeffer, and Connor Crouse; her great- grandchildren Dylan, Amelia, Vivi, Izzy, Addie, Nicholas, Piper, and Jude; as well as her many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Shirley was the cornerstone and matriarch of our family. She has left a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing her and she will be missed always. Her memory will live on through her family for generations to come.
