Stuart P. Schipper Obituary

Stuart Schipper, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and servant-leader in faith and education, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2025, at the age of 78. He was born on November 10, 1946, in Ionia, Michigan, to Victor and Francis Schipper.

At the age of 17, Stuart answered the call to serve his country and joined the United States Navy, where he trained and worked as a satellite systems technician aboard nuclear submarines. His service shaped his character with a deep sense of discipline, integrity, and quiet strength—qualities that became the bedrock of his life.

After his military service, Stuart pursued his passion for education, earning both a bachelor's and master's degree in education. He dedicated over 30 years to the Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod school system, serving faithfully as a 6th-grade teacher and later as a principal. In every classroom and school community he touched, Stuart left behind a legacy of wisdom, patience, and Christ-centered leadership.

Stuart also extended his love of teaching to higher education, serving as an adjunct professor at Chaminade University in Oahu, Hawaii. There, he mentored aspiring educators with the same devotion he gave his elementary students, always guided by his deep faith and passion for learning.

Beyond the classroom, Stuart was drawn to the ocean. A lifelong lover of the sea, he found joy and peace in the waters of Hawaii, particularly on the North Shore at Shark's Cove, where he spent countless hours snorkeling and scuba diving. The ocean was a place of both adventure and reflection for him—a reminder of God's creation and the simple beauty of life.

Stuart is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy Schipper; his children, Christine, William, and Julie; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was a man who loved deeply and lived humbly, always placing his faith and family above all else.

Stuart also never met a potato chip he didn't like—a fact lovingly noted by his family, who often watched him enjoy the crunch of life's simple pleasures. He was notoriously competitive during family board games and was known, with a mischievous grin, for allegedly peeking at cards when the stakes were high. His playful spirit, dry wit, and strategic maneuvering at the game table are cherished memories.

A private memorial service will be held with family and close friends to honor his life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a Lutheran school of your choice in his memory.

In his final days, Stuart often looked at the sunset—searching for beauty, peace, and perhaps even a glimpse of his great love waiting just beyond the horizon. He ran the race set before him with grace, purpose, and a servant's heart. He will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered.
