James S. Heaven Obituary

James (Jimmy) Scott Heaven, January 27, 1962 – October 23, 2025, of Palmyra, New York

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James "Jimmy" Scott Heaven, of Palmyra, New York, who passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family after a long battle with cancer, and, most recently, a brain tumor. Jimmy was an amazing man with a heart of gold, whose warmth and generosity touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Jimmy is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Janet, step-daughter, Elizabeth who he lovingly raised as his own, 2 granddaughters Holly Heaven and Lexi Miles, brothers, Ed (Mary) Heaven, William, Jeff, Fred, sisters, Sue (Andy) Heaven, Sandy Heaven, brothers in law, James (Kathy), Phil (Diana), sister-in-law, Brenda, many nieces, nephews and, last but not least, his precious dog, CJ.

Jimmy was a hardworking, dedicated, and honest man whose integrity and kindness defined his life. His work ethic was truly over the top, and for over 40 years, he worked as the morning cook at Park Place Restaurant, faithfully beginning his day at 2:00 a.m. to prepare breakfast for the community he loved. His co-workers and regular customers at Park Place were like an extended family, and he took great pride in the friendships and laughter shared there.

Even in his final months, that same early-morning spirit stayed with him. During the last two months of his life, Jimmy would often wake at 2:00 am wanting to share a cup of coffee with his wife, Janet – a time that suited him perfectly, but tested her sleep and sanity. Still, she happily sat with him, and those quiet hours together became some of the most tender and meaningful moments.

One of Janet and Jimmy's favorite pastimes together was taking long rides on the dirt roads through the countryside, photographing barns and the beauty of nature –moments of simple joy they treasured deeply.

He lived his life with quiet strength, never, ever complained, and carried a positive spirit. Jimmy had no enemies –only friends—and his presence made every place he entered a little brighter.

Jimmy was an avid LA Rams fan and could always be found cheering for his team with enthusiasm and loyalty. To those who knew him best, he was their Superman – strong, steady, and full of heart, no matter the challenge. Jimmy's super-power was spoiling his "girls," Janet and Holly.

He was preceded in death by his cherished son, Chad James, his parents Edward and Ann Heaven, father and mother-in-law James and Evelyn Newman.

Jimmy's memory will live on through his family, friends, and all who were fortunate to know him. There is a hole in this world where he once stood. He was one of a kind!

A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, November 23, 2025 from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. at the American Legion, 1513 Palmyra Street in Shortsville, New York where family and friends will gather to honor and remember Jimmy's remarkable life.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to everyone who took the time to call, text, visit, send cards, and offer support over the last few, difficult months. Your kindness meant to world to Jimmy and his family.

In his final days, when asked how he was feeling, Jimmy would quietly respond with "good" or "fine" or "okay." On his last day he softly said, "I've been better." In those moments he kept looking upward, as if already catching a glimpse of someone or something beyond – and those that loved him knew his time was near.

In a moment that felt almost poetic, Jimmy took his final breath at 2:22 a.m. – the same quiet hours he began his workdays for so many years. It was as if the universe chose that time to bring its hardest-working soul home. Though he is no longer with us, Jimmy's love, laughter, and unshakable spirit – like Superman's strength – will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew him.

With love, forever and always – your family.
