Doris M. Paine, 85, of Canandaigua, NY, passed away peacefully at home on November 18th.
Doris is predeceased by her parents, Harold and Mabel Belcher, and brother Carl Belcher. She is survived by her loving companion, Gary Meckes, her children Susan (Tom) Kelley, Gregory (Kelly) Paine, and Beth Paine; six grandchildren, her "precious angels", Kaitlyn (John) Schirado, Riley (Dana) O'Sullivan, Collin Paine, Olivia (Chase) Johnson, Victoria Staff and Jacob Costa. She was also blessed with one great-grandchild, Toryn June, who brought her tremendous joy. Doris was also survived by her brother, Neil (Sue) Belcher, sister, Cindy (Jeff) Lord, and several nieces and nephews who all held a special place in her heart.
Born with a heart for caring and service, Doris dedicated her life to nursing. She graduated from Highland Hospital School of Nursing in 1961 and spent the next 45+ years serving patients at Thompson Hospital and The Ontario County Health Facility, offering comfort and compassion for all she tended to. She retired from nursing in 2006, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and kindness that touched countless lives.
Beyond her work, Doris found joy in spending time with her family and friends. She was a talented knitter and enjoyed making sweaters, blankets, and Christmas stockings for her loved ones. She was a gifted cook and baker and enjoyed making meals for those she cherished.
Doris spent several summers with her family on Cape Cod and then later at Holden Beach, North Carolina. She loved taking her grandchildren on special "Grammie" dates, vacations, and attending their sporting events. She made many memorable trips to the New England area with her mother, Mabel, to view the fall foliage. Doris had fond memories of a 3-week road trip traveling across country with her adored Gary to historic sites she had always wanted to visit. A huge sports fan, she loved to watch and cheer on the Buffalo Bills, the New York Yankees and the 'Cuse.
Doris will be remembered for her lifelong devotion to caring for others and the love she poured into her family. Her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched, both inside the nursing units where she served and within the family she adored.
