George L. Valentin Obituary

George Louis Valentin, 63, passed away on December 22, 2025 with his son and family by his side.

George was born December 3, 1962 in Jacksonville, FL. He spent most of his young life there with his family while also visiting Puerto Rico where his family is originally from. He graduated from high school before going to college for one year to try to become a social worker because he wanted to help children, but he never graduated. He also went to Job Corps.

George has lived in many places in his life, but finally settled in Canandaigua, NY. He created a very strong community of friends and family. So it was no surprise when life took an interesting turn for him when he met and fell in love with Heather Ruggles. After what was supposed to be a one night stand resulted in their son, Alan Valentin, they were never apart until her death in December 2001.

George had a lot of interests and hobbies. He enjoyed almost anything to do with the outdoors. He loved fishing and also enjoyed camping and gardening. Sometimes he would just sit outside in the sun and just enjoy the day, but never without his signature sunglasses. George also loved listening to all kinds of music, especially Latin merengue salsa music as he was bilingual. George used the Amazon Alexa at home so much for that specific genre, that when others would try to play music at a different time, it would be something along those lines that they couldn't really understand. George also loved the Buffalo Bills. He loved screaming at the TV when they were winning, or swearing at the TV when they were losing, but it was all in fun. George also really enjoyed watching wrestling, even when his son would remind him it was fake. George just tried to have fun in whatever way he could. George loved animals and had two dogs, Shiloh and Arcadia, as well as a cat named Oreo that would always sleep on his chest. George loved Christmas time. It was one of his favorite times of year, with the delicious food and beautiful decorations and family. He also enjoyed the snow, as long as he didn't have to shovel it. George often talked about opening up his own Puerto Rican restaurant, and was constantly tinkering with recipes.

During the last year or so, George was able to spend a lot of time with his mom, Hilda Vasquez, after she moved back up from Puerto Rico. George and his mother and sisters were very close, talking almost every day.

George is survived by his son Alan, his mother Hilda, and his sisters Teresa, Lucy, and Carmen, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
