Charles C. Plyter Jr. Obituary

We are humbled to pay tribute to the extraordinary life of Charles "Charlie" C. Plyter, Jr., a shining embodiment of dedication, passion, and love.

Charles passed on February 15, 2026. Born on October 16, 1939, in Newark, N.Y., Charles was the son of Charles and Florence (Priebe) Plyter. His remarkable legacy continues to inspire, even in the face of profound loss, including the passing of his beloved wife, Dolores (Knopf), and their two children, Laura "Laurie" Flynn and Charles "Peanut" Plyter, who will forever be etched in our hearts.

Charlie attended Newark High School, graduating in 1957. After high school, he attended Oswego State College, Oswego, N.Y., graduating in 1962. Charlie was a fraternity member of Phi Sigma Phi, English Club, and the Pen and Brush. He discovered his passion for teaching and inspiring young minds, leaving an indelible mark on generations to come. His distinguished teaching career with the Canandaigua School System was a testament to his unwavering commitment to education.

In his younger years, Charlie worked at Roseland Amusement Park. He was a devoted fan of the N.Y. Yankees, N.Y. Giants, Buffalo Bills and Colgate College Sports. Charlie also enjoyed playing golf, trivia, and sharing jokes that brought laughter and warmth to all who knew him.

Charlie is survived by his sister, Jacqueline McAllister; four grandchildren, Michael Flynn, Elaina Flynn, Pasquale Plyter, and Elijah Plyter, who will carry on his remarkable legacy; many nieces and nephews. His extended family and friends will deeply miss him, yet continue to draw inspiration from his life, a shining example of hope and resilience.

He was also preceded by sisters Patricia Ritter and Carla Greene.
