Jerry A. Bliss Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jerry A. Bliss.
Jerry was born on April 26, 1946, in San Francisco, CA. He was the second of four children to his parents Russell and Mildred Bliss.
Jerry was known for his quick wit, being a straight shooter, and his sense of humor. Jerry was a devoted family man who dedicated his life to the service of others. This began with his two years of service in the United States Marine Corps where Jerry served with the 1st Battalion, 9th
Marines, during the Vietnam War (1966-1968). His selflessness and dedication to others continued while working twenty-eight (28) years with the New York State Police, where he retired as a Zone Sergeant
stationed out of the Zone 1 Barracks in Rochester, NY. He relished in his service to his country and his time in the Marine Corps, and would speak often about his time with the NY State Police, fondly
remembering being in the Olympic Arena during the 1980 Winter Olympic Games when the US Men's Hockey Team defeated the Soviet Union in the "Miracle on Ice."
Jerry was a graduate of the Rochester Institute of Technology. He loved food, and after his retirement, his dedication to others remained steadfast with him cooking, smoking, grilling, and baking for his family and friends. Jerry loved to try new recipes, and chocolate cakes, trifles, briskets, and ribs were always staples on his menu. When Jerry was not cooking, he enjoyed playing golf, having coffee with the guys, but most of all spending time with his family and keeping up with his five (5)
grandkids whom he loved dearly.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 55 years, Christine Bliss of Canandaigua, NY; his son Greg Bliss and Melisa Bliss, their children Brennon, Gavin, and Callen, of Syracuse, NY; son Scott Bliss and Jennifer Sheehan of Farmington, NY; and daughter Jennifer (Bliss) Dexter, Connor and Lyla Howland of Farmington, NY. Brother James and Penny Bliss of Scotia, NY; Sister Carin (Bliss) and James Kujawski of Elmira, NY; Brother In-Law Don and Mary Pat Gibbs of Rochester, NY and many nieces and nephews.
Jerry is predeceased by his parents, Russell and Mildred Bliss and his older brother Russell Bliss.
There will be a gathering to remember Jerry on April 25, 2026, from 2pm to 7pm, held at the Venue at the Trail, 14 Railroad St., Victor, NY 14564.
