David Asa Sanford, 56, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, after a long illness on March 31, 2026.
Dave was predeceased by his father, Donald and his father-in-law, Bill Nelson.
Dave is survived by his beloved wife, Jennifer; mother, Patricia; brother, Mike; niece, Amanda, all of Bristol; mother in-law, Genevieve Nelson; sister in-law, Catherine Unger (Chris Mallette); niece, Brooke Unger, all of Baldwinsville; brother in-law, John Nelson (Cara), of Syracuse; lifelong friend, Mark Francese and his dog, Guinness.
Dave was a lifelong resident of Bristol, NY, and graduated from Bloomfield H.S. in 1988. After graduation Dave attended St. Bonaventure University and graduated in 1992. It was at St. Bonaventure that Dave made many friends who became family eventually becoming Godfather and Uncle Dave to many of their children. Don and Pat were always welcoming to the many Bonaventure friends who would camp out on their property. Dave grew up in the Bristol Fire Department family where he became Chief and Assistant Chief and EMT. Dave loved to play softball and rugby and loved to watch the NY Yankees and Buffalo Bills. One of Dave's passions was cooking, especially with his niece Amanda.
A service and reception to honor Dave will be held at 11am on Tuesday, April 7, 2026 at the Bristol Volunteer Fire House on 4350 State Rt. 64, Canandaigua, NY 14424.
