Jean "Butch" D. Van Epps Obituary

Butch D. Van Epps, 60, passed away on Monday, April 20, 2026.


He is survived by his sons, Derrick, Gregory (Kaitlyn), and Aaron (Mackenzie); his daughter, Alexandria; his former wife, Mary Van Epps; three grandchildren; his sister, Bernardene; and many close childhood friends.


He was predeceased by his mother, Jeannette Van Epps; father, Jean Van Epps; and his sister, Karla Heneke.


Butch was born on October 19, 1965, in Fairbanks, Alaska, and grew up in Shortsville, New York. He earned a master's degree in strategic leadership from Roberts Wesleyan College and a Bachelor of Science in engineering at RIT. He served four years in the US Army and six years in the National Guard. Butch worked at Xerox Corporation for 28 years as a Safety and Compliance Engineer.


Butch was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and kind, loyal friend who will be dearly missed. He was devoted to his community, volunteering at the Palmyra Community Center and coaching baseball and basketball. His positive outlook and patient approach resonated with the aspiring athletes and all who knew him.


Friends may call Thursday, April 30th, from 5-7 p.m. at Fuller Funeral Home, Inc. 190 Buffalo Street, Canandaigua. A 10 am memorial service will be held on Friday, May 1st, at the Reformation Church, 232 Canandaigua Street, Palmyra, NY.
