Ellen J. VanDyke Obituary
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Ellen Janet Van Dyke (Van Troost) on May 19th, 2026, at the age of 90. Ellen lived a life marked by compassion, strength, and deep devotion to her family.
Much to their surprise, Pauline and Edward Van Troost would become the proud parents of twins, Ellen and Edwina, on June 6th, 1935. Ellen grew up in Canandaigua, New York, where she attended Canandaigua Academy, graduating in 1954. She then proudly began a career at Canandaigua National Bank. From there, she would pursue even bigger dreams and become one of the top sellers in New York State as a Consultant of Mary Kay cosmetics. Her hard work and dedication was also driven into her work for the Bloomfield Garden Club, where she held almost every position during her many years with them. She won numerous ribbons for her gorgeous floral arrangements. Her love for flowers and gardening went unmatched, with the exception of her cats.
Ellen is predeceased by her parents, her daughter, Jacqueline "Jackie", and her loving husband of 60 years, Homer.
Surviving relatives include her son, Jay; grandchildren, Adam (Amy), Renee Redman (Steve), and Kristie DeYoung (Chad); great-grandchildren, Lilianna Van Dyke, Darren Redman, Dylan Redman, Mackenzie Swart, and Bria Swart; sisters, Joan Van Troost, Dolores Looney, Edwina Donk, Mary Lou Landuyt; cousin, Darline Wise, several nieces and nephews and other relatives.
Ellen touched the lives of everyone who had the honor of knowing her. Her selflessness, warmth, and generous spirit will be remembered forever. She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and compassion that lives on in all of us.
Calling hours will be Wednesday, May 27th from 2-4 PM at Fuller Funeral Home, in Canandaigua, New York, with Funeral Services officiated by Reverend K Cotter immediately following. Burial Services will be the following morning, Thursday, May 28th, at 10 AM at East Bloomfield Cemetery.
