Sam Potter, 83, lost his cancer battle on June 19,2026 at Unity Hospital in Rochester, NY.

He was born on May 9, 1943, to parents Jay and Dorothy Potter.

He is survived by his children, James, Jay, Jonathan, Jennifer and Amy. Sam is also survived by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as his brother David and his sister Bonnie.

His sister Gerri is waiting in heaven to see him. His partner of over 30 years, Edith Polmanteer, was lost previously and Sam enjoyed his memories of their life together. He enjoyed the extended family Edith added to his family.

Sam was part of the Jay S. Potter Insurance Agency for many years. He was active in the community volunteering as a security guard, president of the Lions Club for several years and receiving Lion of the Year on a few occasions. During Sam's life he was a police officer in Rochester, a member of the US Army, and a volunteer at Sonnenberg Gardens and the Grange Homestead.

Sam will be missed by family, friends and the community which he loved and served.

Friends may call Thursday, June 25, from 4-7 PM at Fuller Funeral Home, Inc. 190 Buffalo St. Canandaigua. An 11 AM funeral service will be held Friday, June 26 at the funeral home. Burial to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery 130 N. Pearl St. Canandaigua.
