Michelle Hookway Fancett, beloved wife, daughter and sister passed away peacefully on July 10, 2026, surrounded by loved ones.

Michelle was born on April 13, 1968, in Rochester, New York to Warren and Martha Hyde Hookway. She grew up in Pittsford and Canandaigua, New York. She graduated from Canandaigua Academy in 1987 and from Finger Lakes Community College in 1989.

It was at FLCC where Michelle met Lorne Fancett, the love of her life. They were together for 38 wonderful, adventure-filled years. Lorne's military career brought them to Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado and Washington DC. They settled in Geneva, New York.

Michelle was a very charismatic, very chatty person, the jobs she loved most involved talking with others. She was a cavern tour guide in Texas, a hotel clerk in Washington DC and an attendant with the New York State park system.

Michelle loved to go on outdoor adventures, to do arts and crafts and to write. She adored playing all sorts of games; yard games, board games, card games, games she made up! You name the game, she played it!

She was an avid, somewhat weird collector of cookbooks, autograph books and small, nearly useless kitchen appliances.

She loved thrifting and was always on the lookout for items that were eccentric, unique or something her friends or family may want.

Above all she adored thrifting clothes. She had an eclectic fashion sense; we are certain she could change her outfit 2 times a day for a year without repeating an outfit! This includes coordinating hats and jewelry!

In addition to Lorne, Michelle is survived by; her mother Martha (Jack Powers) Hookway, sister Stephanie (Peter) Doerner, brothers Ty (Elizabeth) Hookway, David Hookway, sisters in law Lindi Fancett, Lori (Lance) Linker and brother-in-law Lee Fancett, 17 nieces and nephews and lifelong friend Wendy Skriver.

We would be remiss not to mention her beloved 18-year-old cat, Andrew, who she spoiled shamelessly with catnip and treats.

She is predeceased by her father, Warren Hookway, her parents-in-law Dale and Karen Fancett and her brother-in-law Bob Brooks.

The family is most grateful and appreciative of the staff in the ICU at FF Thompson Hospital. Their compassion, grace and unerring support was invaluable in this difficult time.

There will be a joyous, loving and probably loud Open House in celebration of Michelle's life on Saturday August 22nd from 1-5 pm, including a ceremony from 2:30 - 3:30 pm at 213 W. Main Street Palmyra New York.
