Preston W. Lankford, 41, passed away on August 15, 2026, surrounded by family, in Shortsville, New York. Preston courageously battled against cancer right to the end. While he was in a tremendous amount of pain, he never complained about it or felt sorry for himself.

Born on December 18, 1984, in Rochester, New York, Preston was the son of Murray and Becky Lankford. Preston attended Manchester-Shortsville Central School District graduating in 2003. He went right to work at the racetrack. He never wanted to do anything else.

Preston was known by all to be a hard worker and loyal friend. He was a great horseman that took a lot of pride in his work. He was a true racetracker. He also loved the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He passed his knowledge and love of fishing onto his nephew. Preston's friends will miss his jokes and laughter.

Preston is survived by his parents, Murray and Becky Lankford, brother, Gavin (Jessica) Lankford, nieces, Elizabeth and Evelyn Lankford, nephew, Edward Lankford, many aunts, uncles, cousins, and numerous friends. Preston was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Bill and Lois Lankford and maternal grandparents, Bill and Eunice Haskins, and Uncle Rick Haskins.

Preston's family is eternally grateful for the kind and compassionate care he received from the Oncology Unit at Clifton Springs Hospital. They would also like to extend a special heartfelt thanks to Dr. Andrew Coniglio and Dr. David Burns for their kindness and care.

A celebration of Preston's life will be held at the American Legion, 1513 Palmyra St, Shortsville, NY 14548, Saturday, August 22, 2026, at 2:00 P.M.

In lieu of flowers, Preston wanted donations to be directed to his favorite charity, No Lemons Equine, 5273 West Ridge Road, Spencerport, New York 14559. Checks can be made payable to "No Lemons Equine."
