Obituary of Ronald Pape

Ronald H (Coach) Pape CANANDAIGUA, NY - Ronald H. “Coach” Pape passed away at his home in Canandaigua NY on October 30, 2015 at the age of 72 with his family by his side after a brave battle with pancreatic cancer. Ron is predeceased by his parents Henry W. and Edna U. Pape of New Hyde Park, NY. He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy (Garvey) of 47 years and is lovingly remembered by his daughter Lisa Gardner of Carrolton, TX, and son Jeff Pape of Woodstock, GA; his four grandchildren Catherine Gardner, Erica Gardner, Dylan Pape and Adrian Pape; mother-in-law Grace Garvey of Fairport, NY; sisters and brothers in law Janet and Howard Sharp of Fairport, NY, Sandra and Scott Smith of Gloversville, NY and Adele Garvey of Macedon, NY; cousins Lauren Fransen of Woodside, NY, Denise Crockett of Jamaica, NY, Jean Duncan of Garrison, NY and Bill (Diane) Wirz of Danbury, CT; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Ron was born in Jamaica, NY in 1943. He graduated from Sewanhaka High School and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from Hartwick College. He then began a 32-year career as teacher and coach at Onteora High School in Boiceville, NY. As a science teacher and football, basketball and baseball coach, he touched the lives of countless young people. Nieces and nephews, students and athletes, friends and colleagues, remember how his wisdom, sense of humor, calm demeanor and belief in them, impacted their lives. Ron played baseball in college and enjoyed playing softball in recreation leagues with his friends. He also enjoyed playing golf with his father, son, grandsons and friends. He was a member of the Woodstock Golf and Country Club in Woodstock, NY and the Canandaigua Country Club. He was an avid sports fan, watching his family members compete in high school and college games, and in his free time, enjoyed all sports on TV. He loved to read, travel, play cards, and most of all spend time with family. Ron was an active church member of Christ’s Lutheran Church in Woodstock serving on many committees and the church council and was currently a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Victor, NY. Family and friends may call between the hours of 4 and 7 PM on Thursday, November 5, 2015, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 888 County Road 9, Victor, NY, 14564. The funeral/memorial service will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church on Friday, November 6, 2015, at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Ron (Coach) Pape’s name may be made to either the Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research at www.lustgarten.org or to the Bell Tower Memorial Fund at St. John’s Lutheran Church.
