Obituary of David Gillis Sr.

Gillis, David A. Sr. Canandaigua- David Gillis, 89, passed away December 30, 2015. He was pre-deceased by his wife Margaret Mary Gillis; sisters Muriel Shea and Annie Gillis; niece Denice O’Neill; and great-grandson, Alexander Thomas Casey. David is survived by his four children, Kevin (Andrea) Gillis, Sandra Hyde, Laurie (Thomas) Marino & David (Lorelei) Gillis Jr.; eight grandchildren, Courtney (Peter) Brillon Jr., Cameron Gillis, Megan Hyde, John (Tanya) Hyde, Jessica (Stephen) Casey, Edward Walukonis, Dustin Gillis & Ryan Gillis; sisters Cathy Boyd and Pauline Smith; six great grandchildren, Robert, Jayden, Kyle, Carter, Ava and Leah; many nieces, nephews and friends. David was born in New York City and raised in Judique, Nova Scotia. He is a decorated disabled World War II Veteran who served in the Army Corps of Engineers. Post World War II he served as a Sergeant in the US Air Force in Japan. He moved to New York City as a young man. There he married Margaret and together they raised their family in New York and Massachusetts. He worked as a Draftsman for Raytheon Corporation in Mineola, NY and Boston. He also worked as a Surveyor for the State of Massachusetts. A 10:30 a.m. funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, January 5, at St. Mary’s Church, 95 N. Main St. Canandaigua.
