Obituary of John W. Carlile, Jr

John W. "Jack" Carlile was born August 4, 1947 in Canandaigua, NY, and passed away March 17, 2016 in Silver Spring, MD, after a long illness. He attended Canandaigua schools and then attended the University of Wisconsin, Madison, where he earned a degree in Meteorology in 1970. While at UW, Jack was a member of the UW marching band, playing saxophone. He was also a staff photographer for the UW yearbook. During his college career,he had summer internships with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) spending two summers at US weather stations inside the Arctic Circle. After graduation, Jack worked for NOAA as a meteorologist in Washington, DC. While working at NOAA, in organized van pools in an effort to improve the transportation situation in the Washington, DC area. His efforts came to the attention of the General Services Administration (GSA)who asked if they could "borrow" Jack for a short while to organize van pools for GSA. More than 30 years, and countless van pools put on the road, later, Jack moved to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to be their transportation coordinator. He retired from the position in 2015. His greatest enjoyment was his grandsons along with country-western dancing and photography. Van pooling was also a passion of his. Jack created his own company "Maryland RideShare Corporation" with a 10 van fleet! He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Georgene (Keefe) Carlile, a daughter, Andrea Joy Carlile-Haner(Ben), a son, David Andrew, two grandsons, Alex and Dylan Haner and siblings, Dawn (John) Scales, Lynne O'Connor, Scott Carlile, Kent (Doreen)Carlile, sister-in-law, Colleen Keefe and brother-in-law, Timothy Keefe, and many nieces and nephews. Jack was predeceased by his parents John and Eugenia Carlile and brother-in-law Richard O'Connor. Friends may call at Fuller Funeral Home, 190 Buffalo St., Canandaigua on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home Friday morning at 11 o'clock. Pastor Dawn Cheney will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Music was a great part of Jack's life and helped in his recovery when he was in rehab. MusiCorps is a group that works with wounded vets to help promote healing through music.
