Obituary of Everett R. Ferguson

Everett R. Ferguson (affectionately known as "Spanky" or "Fergie" by his friends, family, and colleague), 79 years of age, of Rushville, NY passed away on July 10th, 2023, at Light Hill Hospice Home. Fuller Funeral Home will be overseeing the funeral arrangements. Callings hours will be held at Fuller Funeral Home on July 13th, 2023, from 2pm to 4pm and 6pm to 8pm. Funeral service will be held at Fuller Funeral Home on July 14th, 2023, at 10am with Reverend Kennedy of the First Congregational Church of Rushville officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn, 130 N Pearl St, Canandaigua, NY 14424. Everett was born in Canandaigua, NY to the late Elmer (Mike) and Mary Ferguson on August 28th, 1943. He went to high school at Canandaigua Academy and went on to earn a degree/certificate in AEMT-CC from Finger Lakes Community College and Pediatric Trauma Life Support from Monroe Community College. Everett dedicated his life to his community. After serving in the Army, Everett worked for the Canandaigua Veterans Affairs (VA) Hospital as Food Service Supervisor where he was known as Spanky. In addition to working for the VA, Everett actively pursued his true passion by volunteering for our community's Emergency Medical Systems (EMS). Fergie, as he was known in the EMS community, was a co-founder of Ontario County Advanced Life Support (OCALS). OCALS filled the need for advanced first responder care in Ontario County and continues to do so today as a part of the Canandaigua ambulance core. Fergie served as the Chief Technician and Director for OCALS as well as being a lifetime member of the Canandaigua Emergency Squad where he held the positions of Captain, President, and Board Member. Fergie was also a member of the Finger Lakes Regional Emergency Medical Service Council where he served as the chair for the Medical Standards Committee. After retirement, Everett continued to volunteer. He remained an active member of the EMS community by sitting as a board member and/or consulting for local ambulance cores. A couple notable organizations he worked with are Middlesex Valley Volunteer Ambulance Service, Inc and New York State Association for Rural Health. Additionally, Everett enjoyed volunteering for his children. Enjoying many years as a little league coach and Director of the Finger Lakes Youth Football and Cheerleading League. Everett was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Everett leaves to cherish his loving memories, his wife, Kathy; sons, Greg (Meghan), Brian, Justin (Elizabeth) Ferguson; stepchildren Chris (Nikole) and Amanda Olson; grandchildren; Melissa, Tristan, Mya, Brayden, McKenna, Brynlee, Tiarrah, Aurora, Brixton, Everett, and great-grandchild; Trenton. Everett was devoted to his family, community, and was always thinking of the welfare of others. That is why the family has requested that in lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Light Hill Hospice Home in memory of Everett Ferguson.
