EMMETT "JOE" McMAHON Canandaigua Emmett J. “Joe” McMahon died unexpectedly at his home December 5, 2013. He was born in Canandaigua on January 6, 1929. Joe attended St. Mary's School. As a young man Joe proudly served in Korea during the Korean Conflict with the U.S. Army from which he was honorably discharged. He was an earnest, hardworking man throughout his long life. He worked for some years as a barber, but for most of his professional career he worked as a highly regarded automobile and heavy equipment mechanic. Joe was a gifted fruit and vegetable grower who delighted in his delicious crops and sharing them with family and friends. He also loved to cook. He was an avid gun enthusiast who enjoyed shooting and hunting. Joe was a loving son and brother, husband, father and grandfather. He was a loyal, generous and caring friend. He is survived by his wife of 59 years Eileen May McMahon, daughters Sandra (Jay) Mitchell, Patricia (Edgar) Winstead, Karen (David) Edick, son Joseph (Kay) McMahon; grandchildren Katherine Mitchell, William (Ian) Mitchell III, Alexander Winstead and Callista Winstead; brothers George (Vivian) McMahon and Eugene McMahon; sisters-in-law Nora McMahon, Marilyn Wears, Shirley (Joseph) Panno, Catherine (Richard) Smith, Betty May; and many wonderful friends. He was predeceased by his parents William F. and Mary Carey McMahon, and brothers William and Timothy. Friends may call at Fuller Funeral Home, 190 Buffalo St., Canandaigua, Sunday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Joe’s funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Church, North Main St., Canandaigua Monday morning at 11 o’clock. Burial will be in the Sampson Veterans Memorial Cemetery with military honors. It has been suggested that memorial contributions be directed to the National Kidney Foundation.
