Obituary of Lorraine Childs

Lorraine Ruth Childs, “Rainie” Canandaigua- Lorraine Childs passed away peacefully on March 16, 2014, surrounded by family. Born the eldest of three children of Otto and Ruth Herrman of Rochester, on August 5, 1919, Rainey was the apple of her father’s eye. She married Robert Childs of Rochester, June 15, 1940. They had three children: Robert (Bobby) Childs, Karen Childs Potter, and Curt L. Childs who died in 2006. Rainie loved being a mother and raised her children carefully. In later years, she and Bob bought a home in Florida, and enjoyed the winters there and summers in Rochester and Thousand Islands. They enjoyed many trips out west, traveling with Bobby and his wife in their motor home. She also enjoyed visiting her daughter and her husband Rod in Florida. She was so proud of her sons and daughter, Karen, who was her best friend and confidant with almost daily communication. Rainie had a special way about her and had a strong desire to enjoy life to the fullest. In addition to her two children, she is survived by her loving sister, Dorie Dunham, four grandchildren: Cathy Pestle (Scott), Mark Potter, Michael Childs and Rob Childs (Sarah); great grandchildren: Lindsey, Taylor, Kali, RJ, Luke, Cindy, Tyler and Trevor and many nieces and nephews, and friends. The family is most grateful to the caring staff of the Ontario County Health Facility, which was exceptional, and made her passing as comfortable and peaceful as possible. A 3 p.m. celebration of her life will be held at Fuller Funeral Home, Inc. 190 Buffalo Street, Canandaigua, on Saturday, March 22. Interment will be private at Riverside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests a contribution in memory of Rainey to Clark Manor House, 318 Fort Hill Ave, Canandaigua, NY 14424, a nonprofit retirement home which was begun by Mrs. Fredereick Ferris Thompson, located adjacent to Sonnenberg Gardens. The caring administrator and staff made the last years of Rainey’s life most pleasant. Saturday March 22, 2014, 3:00 p.m. at Fuller Funeral Home, Inc. Click for Map and Directions
