I met Stan back in January 1969.There was Jeff Green from Rushville, Jim Calabrese from Geneva, Myself from Clifton Springs and Stan. We all went thru basic training together at Ft. Dix. What a team we were. We all got separated after basic training. I ran into Stan about six years ago and we exchanged pleasantries. About three years ago I again saw Stan and we then started meeting in Wally World or the coffee shop about once a month accidently. About three years ago we met in the automotive department at Walmart. He was in the mood to talk. I believe he served with the First Air Cavalry and I with the 101st Airborne in Viet Nam. Once he found out we were both in heavy combat, he talked non-stop.He stated he was a door gunner on a huey. As he talked he started to tremble and tears slowly trickled down his cheeks. You could feel how he felt for the men he served with. I encouraged him to visit the VA for assistance as I had just done so myself. Upon leaving, we embraced, I could feel he felt awkward doing this but also happy for it. We met many times after and he spoke of never marrying but very proud of his daughter. I enjoyed my brief meetings with Stan and the world is now minus a true combat hero. Rest in peace Stan, and my sympathies to his family. Your comrade in war and peace. Hank Trickey

Beth, My sincere condolences on the recent loss of your father. I knew your dad only a little bit, though I know he touched the hearts of many others. He is with the Creator now without pain and in peace. Love you! Will see you soon for Easter weekend :)
