Douglas S. Allen Of Horsham PA, most recently of Canandaigua NY October 18, 1921 ~ June 27, 2014 Douglas Sentman Allen passed peacefully into his heavenly home on Friday, June 27, 2014. He was born the younger son of Howard E. and Mary (Whiteside) Allen at the family home on the corner of Davis Grove and Keith Valley Roads in Horsham PA. The Allen family later built a home further east on Davis Grove Road where Doug lived with his bride of 65 years, Ethel V. (Smith) Allen. In 2011 they moved to Canandaigua NY in order to be near the immediate family. Doug worked in farming during his early years in support of the war effort. Through his career he was employed by Fisher & Porter, PECO, Mid-Atlantic Tool & Die, Gardner Denver, and Bearings Inc. During retirement years, he enjoyed yard work with his Simplicity tractor, running errands and talking with people. He was also a regular observer at any bridge construction project around the Prospectville area. Doug was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin, and friend to many. Doug loved his family and regularly visited relatives and hosted family gatherings at the homestead. A devoted Christian, he served many years as a deacon and usher at his beloved church, Bethany Bible Fellowship Church in Hatfield PA. He was known for his warm welcome to all guests and his attention to those sick or hospitalized. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Ethel, his older brother Stanton, and many other treasured members of his extended family. He is survived by his Son Douglas W. Allen and wife Donna of Canandaigua NY; his Granddaughter Jennifer Dee (Allen) Check and her husband Jonathan of Victor NY with daughters Hannah Grace and Rebekah and son Nathanael; his Grandson Jonathan Douglas Allen and his wife Jessica of Salisbury NC with sons J.D. and Jairus and daughter Josie; his Grandson Jared Douglas Allen and his wife Janelle of East Rochester NY with daughter Riley. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law Catherine Nelson of Biglerville PA, Marian Hofmann of Doylestown PA and Elvira Smith of Montgomeryville PA; along with many cousins, nieces, nephews, neighbors, and life-long friends. A Memorial Service will be held 11 am Saturday July 12th at the Bethany Bible Fellowship Church, 75 West Broad Street, Hatfield PA 19440. Burial will precede the service at 10 am in Whitemarsh Memorial Park, Horsham. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bethany Church at the above address.
