Obituary of Arthur Gentile

Arthur J. Gentile 1915-2009 Canandaigua, NY Arthur Gentile of Pleasant St. passed away December 4, 2009 at the House of John. A lifelong resident of Canandaigua, Art graduated from Canandaigua Academy in 1936. He enjoyed playing in many bands and had his own orchestra. He also played with Harry Logan’s Orchestra. Art joined the Air Force in 1942, were he was with the 8th fighter division. He worked as a welder on the highest scoring “Mustang” squadron in the European Theater; there he reached the rank of staff sergeant. Discharged in 1946, Art and his two brothers built and operated Gentile Service Station. His brother Sam passed away in 1962; Art and Mike continued to run the station until 1970. After closing the station Art worked for the City of Canandaigua, retiring in 1985. Art was a member of St. Mary’s Church and Canandaigua American Legion Post 256. He is survived by his niece Virginia (Roger) Jones, two step sons, Ralph (Jean) Angel and Robert (Cindy) Angel and great nieces and nephews. Art was predeceased by his wife Lillian, his parents, Sylvester and Angeline (Costello) Gentile, eight brothers and sisters and three nephews. Friends may call Monday December 7 from 4-7pm at Fuller Funeral Home, Inc. 190 Buffalo St. Canandaigua, NY. A funeral service will be held Tuesday December 8 at 11 am at the funeral home. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Contributions may be made in Art’s name to the House of John 14 Spring St. Clifton Springs, NY 14432.
