Obituary of Jay Potter

Jay S. Potter Canandaigua- Jay Potter, 94, passed away on February 1, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. Jay was born in Canandaigua, on May 29, 1920, and lived in Canandaigua most of his life. After serving in Europe during WWII, he returned to Canandaigua where he followed his love of automobiles by first running Potter Bros Auto Sales/Service with his brother Ray, then joining Lord Bros in Holcomb for many years. Also Jay was sales manager at Avidesian Auto Sales. Jay continued on to build the Jay Potter General Insurance Agency, which he ran until the age of 91. Over the years the many friends and acquaintances he made while serving the Canandaigua area were a highlight of his life. Jay was predeceased by his wife of 75 years, Dorothy; his parents George and Mabel Potter; one sister, Alida Bancroft; two brothers, James and Raymond; two grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Jay is survived by his children, Geri A. Bellis of Farmington; Samuel J. Potter of Shortsville; David J. Potter (Roseann) of Woodbridge, VA; and Bonnie J. Stevens of Jordan, NY; 12 grandchildren; Rick Bellis, Jodie (Don) Love, Shari (Ernie) French, James (Gayle) Potter, Jay (Kathy) Potter, Amy Castle, Jonathan (Jennifer) Potter, Jennifer Potter, Christopher (Iris) Potter, Stephen (Cathy) Potter, Jeffrey (Kim) Stevens, Ilona (Tom) Schlafer; 23 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews and his longtime friends, Brian Ayers and Bob Hunt. Friends may call Saturday, February 7, 2015 from 11am-1pm at Fuller Funeral Home Inc., 190 Buffalo St. Canandaigua. A 1 pm Funeral service will follow at the funeral home.
