Obituary of Vicki Jones

Vicki Wightman-Jones Vicki Lynn Wightman-Jones, 51, went to meet the Lord at her Linwood, North Carolina home on Tuesday, March 18, 2008, after a courageous battle with cancer. Vicki was born in Ontario County, N.Y., on Aug. 5, 1956, to Otis B. "Lucky" Wightman and Betty Housel-Wightman. She was a 1974 graduate of Canandaigua Academy and also attended the Community College of the Finger Lakes in Canandaigua, N.Y. While residing in Canandaigua, she was employed for several years in the Dietetics Department of the V.A. Medical Center. She was also employed by The Canandaigua National Bank and Trust Company and as a legal secretary for attorney John Kennedy, Esq. After she relocated to North Carolina and prior to her illness, she was employed by Davidson County Department of Social Services in the Medicaid Transportation Department, assisting local county residents with arranging necessary transportation to their medical appointments. She was the beloved wife of her best friend, Spurgil Lee Jones, who survives her. She is also survived by her loving children, Timothy Otis Pierce and his wife, Jamie VanDelinder-Pierce, of Farmington, N.Y., Matthew Stuart Pierce and Rachel Lynn Pierce, both of Linwood; stepsons Jimmy Jones and his wife, Michelle, of Winston-Salem, and Jerry Jones and his wife, Cindy, of Lexington; her grandchildren, Julian Seneca, Dillon Otis and Jacob David Pierce of Farmington, N.Y., and Jaiden Isaiah Pierce of Linwood; her stepgrandchildren, Dalton Lee and Jordan Annabel Jones of Winston-Salem, and Paige Lee Jones of Lexington; brothers Bruce Wightman and his wife, Barbara, of Canandaigua, N.Y., and Randy Wightman of Clifton Springs, N.Y.; a sister, Lori Cole and her husband, Rusty, of Canandaigua, N.Y.; her brothers-in-law and their wives, Kyle and Lois Jones of Linwood and Jimmy and Bonnie Jones of Churchland; sisters-in-law Edith Myers of Denton and Vanessa Morris and her husband, Marshall, of Tyro; uncle and aunt Edward and Virginia Beasley of Canandaigua, N.Y.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father in 1975 and her mother in 2007. Vicki will be remembered as a wonderful wife, daughter, mother, grandmother, sister and friend to all. She loved spending time with her family, spoiling her grandchildren and traveling. She was known to jump in her car and travel last minute with no planning, often showing up to surprise her grandchildren in New York. She fulfilled her dream upon taking her grandchildren to Disney World in Florida, while receiving chemotherapy. Upon her return, her oncology specialist told her that, "She never had a patient vacation at Disney World while receiving chemotherapy." Her reply was, "Well, I guess you can't say that any longer!" She kept her spunk and lived life to the fullest right to her final days. While living in New York, she was an avid bingo player at all of the local bingo halls. Friends may call at the Fuller Funeral Home, 190 Buffalo St., Canandaigua, Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. where funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 11 o'clock. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Memorials should be directed to Smith Grove Baptist Church, 3462 Sowers Road, Linwood, NC 27299.
