Obituary of Viola Valvano

Viola A. (Cutri) Valvano Loving Wife, Mother and Grandmother Canandaigua NY Of Chapel St passed away peacefully on Friday April 18, 2008 at FF Thompson Hospital. She was 87. Viola was born on January 4, 1921 in Utica, and was the daughter of Frank and Angeline Cutri. Her family moved to Canandaigua in 1930 and settled on Pleasant Street. She graduated from Canandaigua Academy in 1938 before pursing and completing a bachelor degree from Geneseo in 1942. She began her career as a teacher in a one room schoolhouse in Prattsburg. Later in her career she taught in Geneva and served 18 years as an n elementary school teacher at Marcus Whitman Central School in Gorham before her retirement in 1986. She is survived by her devoted husband of 58 years, Joseph M. Valvano; four children, Joan E. (Bill) Skupien of Texas, Joseph M. Valvano also of Texas, Susan M. (Rick) Letarte of Pennsylvania, and Kathleen M. (Don) Jones of Canandaigua; and her brother Joseph Cutri Sr. of Macedon. Eight Grandchildren Michael J. Skupien, Deanna M. Skupien, Renee J. Letarte, Daniel J. Letarte, Thomas A. letarte, Andrea M. Jones, Amanda C. Jones, and Matthew R. Jones. Her sister in law Felicia Cutri of Canandaigua. Several Nieces and Nephews; She is also survived by her brother in law Nick Valvano and Vincent (Dee) Valvano, and sister in laws Mary Clement and Oretta Valvano. She was predeceased in death by her sisters Mae and Kate Cutri and her brothers Russell Cutri and Frank Cutri Jr. all of Canandaigua. Friends may call Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 at the Fuller Funeral Home 190 Buffalo St. Canandaigua. A prayer service will be held Tue. 10:30 AM. at the Funeral Home followed by a funeral mass at 11 AM. at St. Mary's church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Mary's church in Canandaigua.
