Obituary of Terry Hayes

Terry Hayes Loving Husband and Dad Canandaigua NY Of Gorham St. passed away June 18, 2008 at the Canandaigua Veterans Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family at the age 61. Terry was born and raised in Canandaigua upon graduating from Canandaigua Academy; he enlisted and served four years in the U.S. Marine Corp. with two tours of duty in Viet-Nam. Upon being honorably discharged from the Marines, he attended Lehigh College in Pennsylvania and upon graduation he became a member of the Allentown Pa. Police Department. His desire to return home brought him and his family back to Canandaigua. Where he joined the Ontario County Sheriff's Department where he was instrumental in establishing the Ontario County Police Athletic League, enabling young children throughout the county an opportunity to participate in organized youth baseball. After several years, Terry went to work for the New York State Division of Criminal Justice, traveling New York State scheduling training for police departments. Terry ended his law enforcement career at the Canandaigua Veterans Hospital as a member of the Veterans Administration Police Department as he had a desire to design and install kitchens and began his own business, Countryside Kitchens and baths, which he successfully operated for the last 27 years. An avid fan of the Buffalo Sabres, loving the game of hockey, Terry cherished the last few years being involved with his two grandsons, Jarrett and Carter McWilliams, watching them play for the Canandaigua Knights Hockey, he spent many enjoyable hours at the Canandaigua Civic Center, "Pop" will forever be a part in the lives of his two little hockey players. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 38 years, Sharon, devoted Daughter Melissa (Tom) McWilliams and son Tyler. Grandsons Jarrett and Carter McWilliams. Mother and Father Charleen and Manley Hayes, Sister Susan (Phil) Andrews, Brothers Mike (Polly) Hayes, Scott (Vicki) Hayes. Mother in law Dottie Crowley, Sister in law Sandy (Doug) Stone, Brother in law Rich (Robyn) Crowley and several nieces & nephews. The family wishes to express sincere appreciation and gratitude to all the staff at the Canandaigua Veterans Hospital with special thanks to all the devoted care givers in building 7. It's reassuring to know you are there when a veteran needs comfort and help. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family Contributions may be made in Terry's name to the Canandaigua Civic Center 250 Bloomfield Rd Canandaigua NY 14424.
