Obituary of Melvin Donley

Melvin L. “Mel” Donley Canandaigua, N.Y. Melvin L. Donley, 71, passed away peacefully in his sleep on October 4, 2010 at his home in Canandaigua. Born on May 23, 1939 in Naples, he was the son of the late Lyle and Luella Donley. Mel graduated from Naples high school in 1959 and was an active member of the Naples community for most of his life. He was a proud life member of the Maxfield Hose Company, where he volunteered his time happily. Mel was also a past president of both the Ontario County Fire Police Association and the Ontario County Firemen’s Association. He attended and was a part of several community events, including the annual firing of the Naples canon on Memorial Day for several years. Mr. Donley was also a dedicated employee at Widmer Wine Cellars for thirty years. Mel is survived by his dearly beloved wife of 49 years, Carol Donley, his daughter, Pamela Glick, his son, Michael Donley and his valued son-by-marriage, Frank Brown. Mel left behind seven grandchildren, Kaylee Donley, Brandon Donley, Jessica Brown, Jennifer Brown, Bianca Brown, Kathryn Brown and Cheyenne Donley. He is survived by his brother, David Donley (Betty), his sister, Candy Chapman (Gene), two great-grandchildren, Wheeler and Audi, children of Josh Hoppough and Kaylee Donley and several nephews. Mel was predeceased by his first great-grandchild, Dominic, son of Mario Campanello III and Jessica Brown. Mel was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a friend to all and always willing to help in any way that he could. Family and friends may call at Fuller Funeral Home, 190 Buffalo Street, Canandaigua from 6-8p.m., Thursday, October 7. A 12 p.m. funeral service will be held on Friday, October 8 at the funeral home, followed by interment in Calvary Cemetery. Donations in Mel’s memory may be made to the Trisomy 18 Foundation, 4491 Cheshire Station Plaza, Suite 157, Dale City, VA 22193 in honor of his beloved great-grandson, Dominic Campanello.
