RUTH H. BROWN
1921-2010
BLOOMFIELD: Ruth Brown, 89, of Main Street, died December 5, 2010 at Thompson Hospital. Mrs. Brown was born in Theresa, NY on February 3, 1921 to the late Rev. Miles and Nina Steinhilber Hutchinson. She was a graduate of Belleville Union Academy and Diebert's Private School. Ruth later attended Syracuse University College of Business Administration. She started her career with the American Red Cross. Later she was employed at Pine Camp (now Fort Drum) and at the time of her marriage she was working for the 1st. Army on Governour's Island, NY. For 18 years she had been employed by Ontario County working at the Board of Elections. She was a longtime member of the East Bloomfield United Methodist Church where she was involved in many activities. She had been a member of the Fortnightly Club, Order of the Eastern Star, a longtime member of the Rebekah Lodge and a former member of the Bloomfield Garden Club. Ruth was involved in many women's groups including leadership roles in the Rochester District United Methodist Women. She was the Bloomfield Neighborhood Chair with the Girl Scouts and supported numerous charitable organizations especially both urban and rural impoverished groups. Ruth was an avid bridge player and belonged to several bridge clubs.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years Lyle C. Brown, Bloomfield; her daughters Carlee (Rick Hill) Brown, Fairport, Susan (Michael) Marschke, Brockport, DeAnn (Paul) Black, Akron, OH and Kim (Tod) Powers, Dublin, OH; her grandchildren Christopher and Brandon (Kathryn) Powers; her step-grandchildren Tracy (Adam) Lewis, Michael (April) Black and Dan (Julie) Black; her step-greatgrandchildren Regina and Maddie Lewis, Trista and Dominick Black and Emerson and Logan Black; her sister Esther Hodge; her sisters-in-law Anne Brown and Melrose Brown; several nieces, nephews, great nephews, a great niece a great great nephew and many many good friends. Ruth was preceded in death by her sisters Ida May Mantle and Dorothy Shepard Heron and her brother John Hutchinson.
There will be no prior calling hours. Funeral services will be held this Spring at a date and time to be announced. Flowers are gratefully declined and the family suggests contributions in her memory be made to the Memorial Committee of the East Bloomfield United Methodist Church or to the charity of their choice.
