Walter R. Rodney, 88, passed away February 20, 2011 at F.F. Thompson Hospital.
Mr. Rodney was born in Manchester, and was a lifelong resident of Canandaigua.
He served during WWII with the U.S. Navy submarine fleet in the Pacific Theater. Mr. Rodney was a member of the U.S. Submarine Veterans of WWII, a life member of American Legion Post 256, and a parishioner of St. Marys Church.
He worked for 25 years on the Lehigh Valley Railroad and 20 years as an aide at the VA Medical Center in Canandaigua.
Mr. Rodney is predeceased by his beloved wife, Ellen (Lynch),and a brother,Harold Rodney.
He is survived by his children, Mary (David) Kingston, Phoenix, AZ, Thomas, Canandaigua, Meg Egan, Honeoye, Paul Michael, Macedon, Mark (Mary), Oak Harbor, WA, Stephen, Victor; his sister, Margaret Andrews, Shortsville; sister-in-law, Martha (Andrew) Halbert, Penn Yan; brother-in-law, James Lynch, Canandaigua. Mr. Rodney also leaves behind his grandchildren, David (Alex) Kingston, Phoenix, AZ, Daniel (Brooke) Kingston, Phoenix, AZ, Katie Egan, Honeoye, David Rodney, USAF, Heather Rodney, Everett, WA, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call Wednesday, February 23, from 10-11 am at Fuller Funeral Home, Inc. 190 Buffalo St. Canandaigua. An 11:30 funeral service will follow at the funeral home. Burial in Woodlawn Cemetery will be held at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in Mr. Rodneys name be made to the American Heart Association, 3500 Winton Place, Suite 4, Rochester, NY 14623 or Happy Tails Animal Shelter, Ontario County Humane Society, 2976 County Road 48, Canandaigua, NY 14424.
