Obituary of LaVerne Perry

LaVERNE M. PERRY "BIGGER THAN LIFE" Former Canandaigua resident LaVerne Perry, 90, of Streetsboro, Ohio died September 12, 2008 at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna, Ohio. Bud was born in Canandaigua on July 24, 1918 and was the son of the late Clarence M. and Gracia Taylor Perry. He served with the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater during World War Two and was awarded the Bronze Star. LaVerne “Big Daddy” later became an executive chef and administrator for many hotels throughout the United States including the former Treadway Inn in Victor and the Sheraton in Canandaigua. Bud had been living in Ohio for the past thirty years. He remained active in the restaurant business until last year when he retired as chef at a country club near his home. Known as “Bud” in Canandaigua, he became “Big Daddy” in Ohio. Maybe it was because he was a sharp dresser; maybe because he always drove a Cadillac; maybe because he had a good line or maybe it was a combination of all three. He is survived by his sister Geraldine Perry of Canandaigua; his daughter Patricia Brownell of Alabama; his long time companion Zella Norris and her sons Jerry and Jimmy of OH and several nieces and nephews. His twin sister Verna Reals died on September 19. He was also preceded in death by his brothers Everett and Edson Perry and his sisters Frances Perry, Marjorie Perry Smith and Janice Perry. There will be no prior calling hours and services will be private.
