Obituary of John Toomey

John W. (Bill) Toomey Canandaigua NY. Will be greatly missed and always remembered. John (Bill) Toomey of the Chosen Spot Apartments passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with lung cancer. He was 85. John attended Victor Central High School and served in the Army in WWII After leaving the service John worked at Ashland Auto Repair in Victor NY. He then owned & operated the same station for over 20 years. John was a longtime member of the American Legion Post 256 and the Victor Fire Department. He also volunteered at Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua. He enjoyed playing bass in different local bands such as the Valley Ranch Boys and the Four Guys. He is survived by his wife Lillian Toomey, His children Donna (Charles) Moyer, Patricia (Jim) Walker, Stephen (Elaine) Toomey, John (Sue) Toomey II , Step daughters Roxana Gilly, Jackie Ballard. 13 Grandchildren 10 Great Grandchildren, several nieces and nephews And his extended family the American Legion Post 256. John was predeceased by his wife Betty Washburn Toomey and a grandson Jerry Toomey. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Sally Toomey or Jerry Toomey Scholarship Fund at Victor Central High School or the American Legion Post 256 Memorial 'walk of remembrance'. Friends may call Friday from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Fuller Funeral Home, 190 Buffalo St., Canandaigua. Bill's funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Church, Victor, Saturday morning at 10:00. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery. There will be a celebration of his life at American Legion Post 256 following the grave side service at 1 PM.
