Obituary of John Turner
JOHN J. "JACK" TURNER
CANANDAIGUA: Jack Turner, 88, of Lake Drive, died Friday, Jan. 16, at Thompson Hospital.
Jack was born in Niagara Falls, NY on March 22, 1920. He served with the U.S. Army's 82nd. Airborne Division during World War 2 and participated in the Normandy Invasion and later was among the first group of Allied soldiers to enter Dachau concentration camp. After the war and until the 1960s, Jack had been a radio personality with stations WSAY, WVET, WRNY and WHAM. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1986.
He is survived by his daughters Cynthia Mandelker of Greece and Pamela Guyon of North Carolina; his grandchildren Laura, Jennifer and Sean and his great grandchildren Emily, Julia and Aiden. He was preceded in death by his sister Dorothy Turner.
Jack requested that there be no prior calling hours. A memorial serivce will be held at the Fuller Funeral Home at 1:30 on Saturday, January 24. He will be buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
